El Higuerón is Tocmoche's heritage tree, recognised as such by SERFOR: a huge fig with a wide crown and roots that run down the trunk and spread across the ground around it.

Trees of this kind can live for centuries, and this is by far the best known in the district. Recognition by SERFOR, the national forestry authority, put it on the map: it is one of the few things you can see in Tocmoche and nowhere else.

It is a short but welcome stop: shade, water beside you and a tree that impresses by sheer size.
